CLIMATE RESILIENT VILLAGE PLANNING, LAND USE PLANNING

MS Worldwide is actively involved in promoting sustainable urban development across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa by supporting the Urban Policy and Planning Unit within the Planning and Development Department.


One of the key initiatives is the development of District Land Use Plans for the merged districts. This ambitious project aims to establish a framework that guides the use and management of land in these districts, ensuring that growth is balanced with environmental sustainability, infrastructure development, and the social needs of the population.


The District Land Use Plans are designed to cover various critical aspects. These include zoning regulations that allocate specific areas for residential, commercial, industrial, and agricultural purposes, ensuring that land use is optimized for economic growth while preserving the natural environment. The plans also emphasize the importance of infrastructure development, such as transportation networks, public utilities, and social services, which are essential for the holistic development of these districts.


By integrating environmental considerations into land use planning, MS Worldwide aims to mitigate the adverse impacts of urbanization, such as deforestation, soil erosion, and the degradation of natural habitats. This ensures that development is sustainable in the long term, benefiting both current and future generations. In parallel, MS Worldwide has been deeply engaged in climate-resilient village development planning for villages affected by Glacial Lake Outburst Floods (GLOF) and those vulnerable to flooding along the Chitral River and Indus. These villages are particularly at risk due to their proximity to the river and the increasing frequency of climate-induced disasters. The organization’s involvement in this area

focuses on enhancing the resilience of these communities by integrating climate adaptation strategies into village planning.
The Climate-Resilient Village Development Plans include several key components. Firstly, we assessed the specific vulnerabilities of each village, such as the risk of flooding or landslides, and proposed structural and non-structural measures to mitigate these risks. This includes the proposal for the construction of protective embankments, the development of early warning systems, and the promotion of climate-resilient agricultural practices.

Additionally, MS Worldwide emphasizes the importance of community involvement in the planning process, ensuring that the solutions are tailored to each village’s unique needs and capacities. This participatory approach not only enhances the effectiveness of the plans but also empowers the communities to take ownership of their own resilience. Moreover, MS Worldwide has been associated with City Master Planning Projects in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, particularly for the cities of Peshawar, Nowshera, Swat, and Chitral. The organization’s role in these projects is multifaceted, involving extensive community consultations, the development of a shared city vision, and conducting the necessary research and surveys to inform the planning process.

By engaging with local communities, MS Worldwide ensured that the master plans reflect the aspirations and needs of the residents, while also addressing the challenges posed by rapid urbanization, environmental degradation, and climate change. The City Master Plans developed with MS Worldwide’s assistance aim to create cities that are not only economically vibrant but also environmentally sustainable and socially inclusive. These plans incorporate elements such as green spaces, efficient public transport systems, and sustainable housing solutions, all designed to enhance the quality of life for urban residents. Furthermore, by conducting thorough research and surveys, MS Worldwide ensures that the planning process is evidence-based, leading to more effective and impactful outcomes.
